Graham Raising
The foment over term limits and their possible extension has done nothing to curtail the fundraising efforts by 2009 hopefuls who aren’t yet sure whether they’ll actually have open seats to seat.
Here’s an invite for an event tonight being held by Yvonne Graham, a potential candidate for Brooklyn borough president - a rather crowded race that also includes Councilmen Bill de Blasio and Charles Barron, who might eventually be joined by yet another of their colleagues, Domenic Recchia, who (if term limits aren’t extended) will be in search of a new job come 2009 after taking a pass on the 13th CD race this fall.
Also mentioned as potential contenders: Senators Carl Kruger and Velmanette Montgomery, Assemblyman Nick Perry and 2006 Congressional candidate Chris Owens.
Graham is a former deputy to Borough President Marty Markowitz . She still works for him, but stepped down from his executive staff back in February to comply with COI Board requirements in the event that she does run.
(Although, rather oddly, she’s still listed as “Brooklyn’s Deputy Borough President on the City of Brooklyn Web site).
The reader who forwarded this invite noted that Graham, who is Caribbean-American, has not been derailed by the fact that Rep. Yvette Clarke, the first Caribbean-American elected to Congress, endorsed de Blasio over the summer, which was a bit of a slight.
